When is a path needed?
Paths are so
functional that it's easy to take them for granted, but when well laid out
they will improve a garden no end. A well-worn trail in the lawn is a sure
sign that a path is needed and they are surprisingly easy to build. The
time and effort involved will be more than repaid with a path that will
last for years, as long as it's properly built.
Gravel paths
Gravel has long been a favourite path material but if cats frequent your
garden, they may be tempted to use it as an outdoor litter tray. However,
all sorts of materials other than gravel, including chipped bark and
broken slates can be used.
Brick Pavers Vs Paving Stones
When it comes to selecting materials, brick
pavers are a great choice to create a good-looking patio that is also easy
to build. They are much lighter to work with than traditional paving
stones and simpler to lay as no cementing is required on a non-load
bearing patio. Here we show how to create a basic basket-weave pattern but
a number of different designs are possible. More complicated designs will
require some cutting of the pavers.
