Choosing a dishwasher

Utility - Choosing a dishwasher

Back to index page

When choosing a dishwasher consider the following options to ensure the best choice for your needs.....

Controls - Some models have the controls hidden inside the top edge of the door. This not only looks sleek, but also prevents children from playing with the controls.

Timer - A machine with a built in timer will allow you to take advantage of lower electricity rates or wash while your out. Check hours delay as some dishwashers have only 4 hours delay, whereas others have 24 hours delay.

Performance ratings - Wash, energy and drying ranked A-G. A is best

Capacity - Choose the best capacity for the size of your family. The standard sizes are usually 12 place settings (Normal Width - 60cm) or 9 place settings(Slimline - 45cm) .

Glassware/Delicates - some dishwashers have special programmes to handle delicate glassware.

Salt and rinse aid - Some dishwashers have built in LED indicators on the control panel, while others have a float that rises to the surface when the salt container is full or a window that goes clear when rinse aid is empty. LEDs are easiest to see and therefore best.

Safety - It is well worth considering getting a dishwasher with Aqua Stop that protects against leakages. Some Aqua Stop systems will protect the inlet and machine, others will do one or the other.

Collapsible Shelving is useful for large saucepans or serving dishes.

Fuzzy Logic - some models can sense the level of soiling and wash accordingly

Hydro Sensor - the sensor checks the level of soiling in the water. If the water is clean enough it is used for the wash cycle, and when rinsing, will stop the rinse cycle when the sensor detects clean rinsing water. This can reduce the water and energy consumption.

Fill Temperature can be Hot & Cold or just Cold. Cold Fill only requires only one connection to water, but the water needs more heating in the machine.
