Living Room - Choosing the lighting

Back to index page

Create the right lighting

Create a welcoming glow. Don't restrict yourself by making your lighting plan too fixed

With so many hundreds of products on the market, you can choose your fittings to blend in with your overall scheme, from period style Tiffany lamps to minimalist hi-tech chrome track.

Table Lamps
Use table lamps dotted around the outside edges of the room - placed on shelves and tables. These will radiate light inwards making the room feel spacious yet cosy.

Uplighters
Position a freestanding uplighter or standard lamp behind the sofa.

Wall lights
Mount wall lights in alcoves or either side of a fireplace - features that won't be moving. For romance or entertaining, use a real fire and candlelight supplemented by other wall lights dimmed to their lowest setting.

Lighting with a difference
1. Make your pictures into light boxes for a stunning display.
2. Install a voice activated system so you can command your lights to come on and off when ordered.
