Choosing the heating

Living Room - Choosing the heating

Back to index page

Having a fire in the living room

A living room should always appear warm and welcoming, so choosing how you heat this room is an important consideration when you plan the room.

The majority of living rooms need a focal point (please don't use the TV for this!), usually a fireplace.

The fireplace not only provides this focal point, but can also create a warm and cosy atmosphere to the room particularly on those cold winter nights.

Choosing a fire will depend on the shape and size of your room and whether your home has a chimney or flue.

The style of fire you need
The next consideration should be the style, do you want a contemporary or traditional feel to the room? This will guide you in choosing the right surround for the fire.

Radiators
Once you have decided on the fireplace, you may need to consider other heating in the room such as radiators. Radiators are not the most attractive item but can either be replaced with more contemporary styles or disguised by attractive radiator covers to blend into the room.

Alternative heating
Another alternative is underfloor heating, which although it is generally more expensive, is a great way of heating your room without the need for those unsightly radiators!!
