Kitchens - Choosing a fridge & freezer |

Back to index page
What type of fridge freezers are best for you?
Walk into any high
street retail electrical store and you will be faced with a fantastic
choice of fridges, freezers and chillers.
Deciding on which to buy will be determined primarily by the space
available in your kitchen and possible utility or garage space.
Before you buy carefully measure your available space for the fridge or
fridge freezer to ensure that you are buying the correct size.
If you are looking to save space and don't have a garage, then a fridge
freezer is the best solution. There are a variety of combinations
available with varying proportions for the fridge and freezer sections.
Consider refrigeration packages which include a single larder fridge and
separate freezer to go under a worktop for example. The benefit of a
larder fridge is that it does not have an ice box so you can say goodbye
to frost problems!!
When you have bought your fridge or freezer, remember the following top
tips......
1 Site the appliance in a cool place, such as an unheated utility
room or garage, out of the sun and away from heaters, boilers, cookers
2 Allow plenty of ventilation space at the back and top of the unit
3 Keep the temperature right – no more than five degrees Celsius,
but the colder you keep it the more energy it will use. Fridge
thermometers cost only around £2 - £3.
4 Open doors for as little time as possible – opening the door for
10 seconds can mean the fridge takes 40 minutes to cool to its original
temperature.
5 Keep fridges about three-quarters full for maximum efficiency
(use cartons of juice or bottles of booze or tap water to fill an empty
fridge).
6 Defrost regularly, and keep the grills at the back of the
appliance clean and dust free. Replace damaged door seals.
7 Don’t put warm or hot items in the fridge or freezer. |
