The
seven islands that make up the Canary Islands are located south east of
the Spanish mainland.
Their volcanic origin and their special position in
the Atlantic Ocean have given the islands a unique character with a
landscape is unlike any other found in Europe or Africa.
The seven islands are Lanzarote, Fuerteventura,
Gran Canaria, La Palma, El Hierro, Tenerife and Gomera.
Tenerife
Is the biggest island and has a tropical feel which contrasts the volcanic
area of the island which is topped by a snow capped Tiede Mountain.
Inland, you will discover tiny hillside villages, banana plantations and
aromatic pine forests.
Gran Canaria
Has wonderful beaches and many beautiful buildings and offers a truly
cosmopolitan feeling, particularly in the city of Las Palmas. It is famous
for bananas and tomatoes.
Fuerteventura
Has splendid beaches and just a stone's throw
away from the Sahara Desert. The island is not a built up as others in the
island group and retains many village charms.
Lanzarote
Has some of the best beaches
in the Canaries but also offers fantastic scenery at the Timanfaya
National Park where you can see a volcanic landscape complete with
geysers and volcanic craters.
