Dining Room - Choosing a table

Back to index page

Choosing a dining table

There are many different types of dining tables to choose from, depending on what size you require - and how much you want to spend.

Don't forget to sit down at the table to make sure it feels a comfortable height and the legs don't get in the way of yours.

Circular Tables

Perfect for the centre of a room especially if you need to be able to walk "through" the room. Circular tables and oval tables can be made from either a single piece of solid oak or with a central extending mechanism, changing the table from round to an oval table. The mechanism works on telescopic wood rails, which allows you to pull the legs apart and place the flaps in the centre. The great thing about this system is that your guest’s leg does not get tangle up with the table legs!

Tables with a Difference
Apart from the normal square, round or oval tables you can also get table and benches. These are a great as they have no chairs with them that all have to be moved separately when cleaning is in progress and if more then you expected turn up for tea you can always add two chairs to the table using the two ends there is no bench at. These types of tables seem to become more sought after.

Restored tables
If you're on a limited budget don't dismiss tables which have marked tops - so long as the wood has not been damaged it can probably be restored to its former glory.
