The quaint old town of Bar-le-Duc is the capital of the Meuse Département. The area surrounding Bar-le-Duc is enclosed by hills planted with vines and by wooded areas.

The towns industries include food processing, heavy industry, metalworking and textile manufacturing. 

Épinal is located along the Moselle River. Épinal is divided into four sections by two arms of the Moselle River: The main town is on the east bank and is called both the Grande- Ville and the Vieille-Ville.

On the west bank is the Quartier de la Gare. The Petite-Ville is located between the river's two channels, on an island. 

Metz is the capital of the Moselle Département and of the Region of Lorraine. It is located near Germany and Luxembourg. 

Metz was the capital of a Gallic tribe named the Mediomatrici, and derives it name from the tribe.

The city has a number of points of interest. The Gothic Cathedral of Saint-Étienne is perched upon a hill overlooking the Moselle. 

The city has over 20 bridges crisscrossing the river and its canals The city produces automobiles, cement, electrical equipment, food products, leather goods, mechanical equipment, metal goods, textiles and tobacco products.

Nancy was the capital of the historic duchy of Lorraine and is now the capital of the département of Meurthe-et-Moselle. The University in Nancy is France's third largest scientific university. 

The city is Lorraine's commercial center, producing beer, boilers, catering equipment, chemicals, clothing, electrical equipment, furniture, glassware, printed material, processed foods, textiles, tobacco and yeast.
