Named
"Centre" for its location in the heart of France. The Centre
Loire Valley is easily accessible from Paris via car or TGV high-speed
train.
In addition to the vast number of castles that dot the landscape of
the Western Loire Valley, including the famous castle at Chambord,
Chenonceau, Blois and Villandry, the region offers visitors well-preserved
medieval villages, the grand cathedrals of Bourges and Chartres and a
variety of fine local cheeses and wines.
Renowned for its
sumptuous châteaux, the relics of royal days gone by, the glorious valley
of the Loire is rich in both history and architecture. Like the Loire
River, this vast region runs through the heart of French life.
Its sophisticated cities, luxuriant landscape and magnificent food and
wine add up to a bourgeois paradise.
Along with its
architectural treasures and history, the Loire valley is rich and fertile
farming country, criss crossed with tributaries from the river, forested
and famous also for its food and wine.
This is a great riding
and cycling country and a wonderful way to explore the countryside.
Centre Loire Valley is generally warm and showery in spring, with
temperatures often reaching 30 plus degrees through the summer and often,
a warm late autumn. |
