The region of Franche-Comte is located between the old Duchy of Burgundy and Switzerland and is approximately 250 miles form Paris.
The region offers many interesting sights including the Peugeot Museum in Sochaux where over 70 vehicles are on display.
The city of Belfort is the capital of the Department of Territoire de Belfort. It is located on the Savoureuse River, southwest of
Mulhouse.
It is best known as a wine-trading centre for Alsatian wines and brandies, but also produces textiles, electrical equipment, metallurgy and chemicals.
Besancon is one of the most charming cities in France and was founded by the Romans in the first century. The town is also host to France's oldest museum, The Beaux Arts, which opened in 1694.
Besançon is a farm-trade, cultural, and manufacturing centre. Since the 18th century the town has been noted for its production of timepieces. Other manufacturing includes processed food, leather works and textiles.
Dole, located 30 miles downstream from Besancon, is home to the famous Comte cheese and has a superb range of 16th and 17th century buildings.
The most famous landmark in the city is the stone bell tower of the Notre Dame Cathedral. Dole manufactures metal and sanitary porcelain.
Southwest of Besancon is the town of Arbois, the undisputed capital of Jura wines. Arbois is made up of beautiful yellow ochre buildings set in the extensive vineyards that surround the town.
